A Royale Time with the Royale Brothers

THE ROYALE BROTHERS – Rear 1 Church Street, Brighton – (03) 9005 4242

Craving a burger and fries? It’s amazing the variety we have now that doesn’t involve the dreaded Golden Arches! On a beautiful day, on the way to the beach, we just couldn’t go past this place, it is an outlet but does have a few tables and chairs as well.

It’s situated right behind the Pantry – which is one of our favourite doggy friendly spots, and does it live up to being voted in the Top 10 burgers according to Time Out Melbourne in September 2015. Yes yes and YES!

Ordering at the counter Slushies anyone?

Firstly, not only do they serve burgers but also have slushies, thick shakes, and even ice cream. The salted caramel ice cream – ONE OF THE BEST I’VE EVER HAD!! I’m not into sickly sweet ice creams, or ones that have lots of bits and bobs to chew on or add more flavour. This place will make you an ice cream where the flavour can be enjoyed simply through the ice cream itself. No biscuit bits or nuts and not overly sweet – it was just perfect *sigh*. We loved the retro theme which this place does very subtly but effectively, more of a modern take to a retro look.

They have benches for you to sit on and further down a few tables if you are with a group of people (which is also the licensed area). Great spot for you to sit with your little hairy daughter/son – especially on a nice day/night as it’s not under cover and don’t have any inside seating either. They do have a water bowl which is shared with their big sister Pantry and the staff are very friendly which fits nicely with the relaxed atmosphere. In fact, if you can’t decide between Pantry or The Royale Brothers, have no fear! Pantry features 3 of their most popular burgers on their menu 🙂

Seating area Deck seating areaThe first time we went, we were just passing through to enjoy the sun at the beach, and couldn’t wait to dig in to the food! The burgers themselves were delicious! We tried the Crispy Fish and the Royale with Cheese, the milk bun made the bread nice and fluffy and even though the fish was battered it didn’t taste greasy. A little bit more flavour would’ve helped, the sauce in the Crispy Fish burger was quite bland, but that’s just personal preference. The chips – so good! Make sure you do try their famous Royale spicy tomato sauce which is just an extra $1, it’s chunky like a salsa and is much nicer than your standard tomato sauce to dip your chips into. The second time we chilled out on the outdoor decking area and enjoyed a couple of beers!

Bacon Royale Crispy Fish Chips with aioli and jalapeno salsa We love the fact that they are open on most days until 9pm on Sunday – Thursday and 10pm Friday – Saturday. Great for those late night cravings!

We give this place a 4.5/5 🙂
